Özet

Kısaca Seton Lloyd'un kuru ve kötü kış iklimi nedeniyle Anadolu'da Toros Dağları'nın ötesinde Neolitik yaşam olmadığına dair hatalı görüşünden sonra (bakınız S. Lloyd, Early Anatolia. The archaeology of Asia Minor before the Greeks, Harmondsworth 1956), araştırma tarihi bizim anlayışımızla Neolitik gelişmeler açısından hala anahtar yerleşmeler olarak kabul edilen Göller Bölgesi'ndeki Hacılar ve Konya Ovası'ndaki Çatalhöyük gibi Neolitik yerleşmelerin keşfedilmesiyle tamamen değişti. Bununla birlikte yerleşik hayat, hayvancılık ve teknolojik gelişmeler gibi göstergeleriyle böyle kompleks bir fenomen, yalnızca elde bulunan birkaç yerle anlaşılamaz, çünkü Yakın Doğu'daki farklı toplumlar tarafından uygulanan birçok farklı ideolojik yaklaşımlar ve mevcut stratejiler orada prehistorik toplumlar için geçerli yalnızca hazır tek bir 'Neolitik paket' olmadığını gösterir.
